1/2 water (or coconut milk)
1 tablespoon light soy sauce
2 teaspoons kencap manis
1 teaspoon fish sauce
1 - 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1/2 tsp chilli flakes or more to taste
few drops sesame oil
Crispy air fried tofu
500g firm tofu
1/2 tsp Turmeric
1 tsp smoky paprika
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp sea salt
1/2 tsp chilli flakes or to taste
1 tblsp corn flour
1 tblsp olive oil
To serve: steam or wok tossed broccoli
Instructions for Satay Sauce:
In a small pot, mix together all ingredients until well combined. Heat to a simmer.
Taste and adjust seasings as desired.
Transfer the satay sauce to a serving bowl or jar.
Serve drizzled over the delicious air fried tofu.
Feel free to adjust the consistency by adding more water or coconut milk for a thinner sauce or reducing the liquid for a thicker dip-like consistency.
Instructions for Crispy air fried tofu:
Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes.
While the air fryer is preheating, prepare the tofu. Drain the tofu and gently press it between paper towels or a clean cloth to remove excess moisture. Cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes or rectangles, whichever you prefer.
Place the tofu in a large zip lock sandwich bag. I find this is easiest to evenly coat the tofu. If you don't have a zip lock back use a large bowl.
Add the turmeric, smoky paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, sea salt, and chili flakes over the tofu and shake the bag until evenly coated.
Open bag and sprinkle the corn flour over the seasoned tofu and toss again to coat the tofu pieces with a thin layer of flour.
Open bag again, and drizzle the olive oil over the tofu and toss once more to ensure the tofu is evenly coated with the oil.
Once the air fryer is preheated, arrange the seasoned tofu in a single layer in the air fryer basket. You may need to cook the tofu in batches to avoid overcrowding.
Air fry the tofu at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket or gently turning the tofu halfway through the cooking time. This will ensure even cooking and crispiness on all sides.
Keep an eye on the tofu during the last few minutes of cooking to prevent it from burning. The tofu is done when it turns golden brown and becomes crispy.
Serve with Almond satay sauce and broccoli on the side.
